Ethos

Our in-house creative team brings life into our buildings down to the smallest detail, with handcrafted elements, environmental features and integrated art pieces by Artist in Residence Fitzhugh Karol.

Dedicated to responsible construction, we build smart and energy-efficient homes that will bring lifelong comfort and joy while enabling a lower footprint for the common good. Our new construction projects follow Passive House principles, striving towards air-tight building envelope and insulation systems in our homes to allow cleaner, healthier living for our customers.

The Brooklyn Home Company works on a national portfolio of residences and hospitality projects from offices in Gowanus, Brooklyn. Our projects range from historic renovations in brownstone Brooklyn, homes in Jackson, Wyoming, and The Lake House on Canandaigua, a hotel in New York’s Finger Lakes region.
Sustainability

We are committed to a sustainable building practice through our use of Passive House Design.

Passive House is a European building technique that increases the insulation of the building envelope and introduces fresh filtered air into the indoor environment. This lowers heating and cooling bills, reduces the building’s carbon footprint, and improves indoor air quality compared to typical home builds. In short, it’s the best way to build new homes.

Therefore, we invested in Passive House design and construction training. Our architectural project manager is a Certified Passive House Designer. We also hired Bldgtyp, the preeminent Passive House consultant and educator in NYC to oversee our home builds. We upgraded our HVAC systems to integrate ERV air systems, which extract stale air from inside the home and bring in filtered fresh air. Filtered fresh air is clinically proven to improve cognitive brain function (fresh air makes you smarter), reduce transmission of illness between family members, and improve the quality of life for those suffering from asthma and allergies. Lastly, Passive House, due to the required continuous insulation and triple pane European windows, makes your home quieter. All of this leads to the best homes we have ever built.
